We take sustainability seriously! And so, our business model is dedicated to incorporating circular economy practices into all that we do. The circular economy, also known as the 'closed loop' model, focuses on reusing, reducing waste and emissions, responsible manufacturing, increasing the efficient use of natural resources, and recycling. This approach not only helps combat climate change but also fosters a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

In a nutshell, the circular economy is about maintaining resources that are already in use here on our Planet.

Understanding the Circular Economy

The circular economy is a transformative model that rethinks the traditional linear approach of "take, make, dispose." Instead, it emphasises keeping products and materials in use for as long as possible, extracting maximum value before recovering and regenerating products at the end of their life cycle. Here’s how at Eco-Ocean living we’re bringing key elements of a circular economy into our organisation and helping the future of our Planet.

• Our Take Back Program: Where used products can be returned to be repurposed or recycled.
• Reusing Wherever Possible: Extending the life of unwanted materials by reusing upcycled bicycled tyres for our hair ties and upcycled bicycle spores for our hair forks
• Reducing Waste & Emissions: We carefully consider our energy consumption throughout all of our business practices.
• Responsible Manufacturing: We adopt sustainable practices in the production of goods.
• Increasing Efficient Use of Natural Resources: Our haircare products are made using natural ingredients and resources such as natural oils and butters, linen and bamboo.
• Recycling: Where products are contained in packaging, we ensure that all packaging is recyclable. 

Our Take Back Program: A Step Towards Sustainability

Eco Ocean Haircare's Take Back Program is designed to ensure that our products do not end up in landfills, but rather are given a new life through recycling and repurposing. Our Take Back Program is a great way to support the circular economy, and where we would love to see many other organisations/businesses following suit!

Here's how this closed-loop process works:

Eco Hair Ties Recycling

Our eco hair ties are crafted with sustainability in mind. Each hair tie is made from repurposed bicycle tyres, keeping many unwanted tyres out of landfill each year and making use of a valuable resource. When these hair ties reach the end of their usable life, we partner with recycling experts to ensure they are properly processed. In Victoria, we collaborate with Charlie at Recycle Tyres, who has multiple locations to facilitate the recycling of our eco hair ties. In New South Wales, we partner with Revolve Recycling to manage the recycling process efficiently.

So if you’ve purchased our eco hair ties and they’re ready for a new life - please contact us here and we’ll close the loop and ensure they don't end up in landfill.

Fabric Hair Ties and Scrunchies Recycling Initiative

For those with fabric hair ties or scrunchies that are no longer useable (such as our Eco Luxe Cotton Hair Bands), we have partnered with Go For Zero and Upparrel for recycling. Customers can post their old fabric hair ties or scrunchies directly to to Go For Zero, and in return, they will receive a discount offer to purchase new eco hair ties. Go For Zero then send them off to Upparrel to be made into recycled fibres that is then used in things like home insulation, filling for furniture and mattresses.

This initiative not only encourages recycling but also rewards customers for their commitment to sustainability.
